Rural Watch Update 11/09/2026

Good afternoon all, 

Happy Friday! I hope you have all had a lovely week. 

This week is ‘National Rural Crime Week’ and I’ve had a fabulous week of visiting farms across our division, hearing from you first hand the problems you are facing, and how I can support you going forward. I was blown away by the warm welcomes I received, taking time out from your busy days to speak with me. Thank you very much. 

I will continue to do more farm/rural village visits as we enter the darker months, providing home and farm security advice. 

I was also at SRUC’s Oatridge campus. Attending at Fresher’s week and providing crime prevention advice to our workers of the future. 

And lastly, a morning at the Ram Sale Kelso, speaking with farmers, all about sheep. My goodness I have a lot to learn! If anyone wishes to be my auction translator next year, I would be very grateful! 

Now on to business news 

West Lothian 

We had two separate thefts of trailers from Bathgate and Whitburn. One trailer was disconnected from the back of a vehicle, the second was taken from an unsecure yard. There was CCTV on the premises but due to poor quality, we could not make out the registration of the vehicles involved. However, two persons, most likely male, are suspects. Both bore registrations being, CV59 GGX and YF75 RKJ. It is likely they have been removed, however, please keep an eye out and contact Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously, if you have any further information. 

Several hundred pounds of copper cable was stolen from a secure premises in Livingston. The suspects cut through the perimeter fence to gain access. There is CCTV, but the crime was not captured so I have no further information to provide you at this time.
